LTC Steven Mazurka

Steven Mazurka entered Cal Poly January 1966, as an Animal Husbandry major and joined ROTC as a compression cadet. After attending summer camp in 1967, he became the Cadet Corp Commander, with almost 400 cadets strong. As a Distinguished Military Student and Distinguished Military Graduate, he was commissioned Infantry, Regular Army in June 1968.
His initial assignment was as Plt Ldr, 41st INF (M) Combat Developments Command, Ft Ord. He completed The Infantry Officer Basic Course, Ranger School, and Airborne Course before being deployed to Viet Nam, 1969. He served with the 3/506th INF, 101st Airborne as a Platoon Leader, staff officer and Company Commander and was awarded, Bronze Star, Purple Heart, Meritorious Service Medal, Air Medal, Army Commendation Metal and Combat Infantryman’s Badge.
He returned to the Infantry School, Ft Benning and was assigned to the Office of Doctrine Development, as Project officer for Basic Training and Infantry Advanced Individual Training. He Transitioned to Armor Branch and attended Armor Officer Advance Course before going to Ft Hood, as a Company Commander. He served as an ROTC instructor at Kearney State College, Nebraska.
He transitioned to Reserve Duty and upon promotion to Major, served tours with Chief Army Reserve, Washington DC; Doctrine and Training, Ft Knox, KY; Instructor, Command and General Staff College, Ft Leavenworth and upon promotion to Lieutenant Colonel, Squadron Commander, 2-302d Cavalry, 100th Division, where he Retired in 1995.
